Nastar Racing at Welch Village

What is Nastar?

NASTAR is the acronym for the NAtional STAndard Race and is the largest public grassroots ski race program in the world. More than 95,000 Nature Valley NASTAR participants compete throughout the season to win platinum, gold, silver and bronze medals in their age and gender groups. In addition, participants are ranked in their ability group and the top ranked racers qualify to compete in the Nature Valley NASTAR National Championships.

NASTAR was developed by SKI Magazine in 1968 to provide recreational racers with an opportunity to compete and to compare their scores to friends and family members regardless of when and where they race. The NASTAR handicap system is a universal scoring system that provides participants with a tangible number that represents their ability. The NASTAR.com web site records each participants stats and ranks each racer at the host resort, in their state of residence and nationally. The NASTAR program has a successful partnership with the U.S. Ski Team as its premier youth racing feeder program.

2012/13 Welch VIllage Nastar schedule

Friday Nights - Open Nastar is held every Friday night from 6pm - 8:30pm on Dan's Dive starting Dec. 21st and ending March 1st. There will not be Nastar on January 18th. Race course is on Dan's Dive...register in MaddJaxx.

Saturday Afternoon - Nastar will be held on the Dec 29th, Jan. 19th and Feb. 16th from 3pm-4:30pm. Both a Giant Slalom and Slalom course will be set. Race course is on Lookout....register in the old ski shop (2nd floor main chalet).

Sunday Morning - Nastar will be held on Dec. 30th, Jan. 20th and Feb 17th from 10am - 11:30am. Both a GS and a Slalom course will be set. Race course is on Lookout....register in the old ski shop (2nd floor main chalet).

Race Clinics

Friday nights, 7-8:30pm, $25 includes clinic and unlimited Nastar runs.

"Spend some time with our qualified race clinicians to work on drills/skills outside the race course to improve your skiing once you are ready to enter the race course. Clinics are available Dec 28 through Feb 15, (No clinic or Nastar offered on Jan 18). Register in our OnLine Store by Thursday noon, for the Friday clinic you plan to attend."
