Welch Carvers
Welch Village is the only licensed PMTS Direct Parallel® ski school in the country. PMTS Direct Parallel® is unique - it's a complete modern teaching system that does not use the wedge or "snow plow." All movements taught in our system utilize modern ski design and create and maintain balance. The system teaches expert skiing movements to all ability levels using Student Centered Ski Instruction™ which uses a student's needs and motivations to design a learning environment.
Carvers is our signature ski instruction program for kids at Welch Village. This 6 week progressive program is designed to offer the highest level of ski instruction for children of all ability levels. Whether your child has recently started skiing or would like to ski more challenging terrain with more confidence, our Carver coaches will fulfill your family's goals and motivations with the PMTS Direct Parallel teaching system. Coaches will also provide weekly feedback to parents on the skiing progress of their son/daughter. There is a low instructor to student ratio in this program to ensure a high level of personal feedback and coaching.
Program Requirements: CARVERS IS NOT A BEGINNER PROGRAM. Review the Ski Lesson page for beginner lesson offerings.
In order to register for this program, students must be able to ride the chairlift without the assistance of an adult and already be able to ski on green runs while controlling speed and making turns. Students who do not meet these requirements will be asked to enroll in another lesson program and will be required to pay added fees in order to process a transfer or a refund.
Parents: Check out the Carver Camps in December & March which are open to skiers age 6 and older. If you prefer to take a lesson yourself while your child is in Carvers sign up for one of our weekend lesson options.
Welch Carvers (ages 8-14)

- In order to register for this program, skiers must meet requirements above.
- Includes coaching on 6 consecutive date specific dates. Rarely does Welch Village close for weather reasons. Program days are not interchangeable, students may only attend the program day that is purchased. If for some reason the ski area is closed due to a weather event, the make-up session will be used. Make up sessions are also not available due to sickness or any other conflict.

Micro Carvers (ages 4-5)
The newest addition to our signature Carvers ski instruction program. This 90 minute single day lesson is open to skiers aged 4-5 (at the date of the lesson). The lesson will start in the magic carpet area where students will focus basic movements to make turns and control speed with a goal to ride the chairlift and continuing on the beginner slope. Chairlift use is based on student willingness, performance and instructor discretion. Each student will have their own PMTS trained ski instructor for the lesson.

Race Carvers (New!)
Race Carvers is held on 6 consecutive Sunday afternoons in January & early February. This progressive skiing development program will introduce ski racing to junior intermediate skiers who have already taken our Carvers program and would like to prepare for our Junior D-Team program. Or, this program can also be a good choice for less experienced racers who would like to get extra technique development as well as extra race gate practice. Race Carver students will be coached in small groups by both experienced Carver coaches as well as junior race coaches. Small groups ensure lots of practice time as well as a high degree of personal feedback.
Program Ability Requirements: Race Carvers is NOT a beginner skiing program. Students must be able to ride all Welch Village chairlifts unassisted and must be able to ski all green and blue runs at Welch Village while controlling speed by making turns. If a student is skiing in a wedge on day one, the Carvers program is a better choice. Students who do not meet these requirements will be asked to enroll in a different program and could be required to pay added fees to transfer or fees to process a refund.
Program Fee: $650 (Space is limited)
- Fee does not include season pass, lift tickets, or rental equipment. A valid lift ticket for each day or a season pass is required in addition to the program fee.
- Race Carvers is open to kids age 7-14 who meet the ability requirements.
